Illegal party in France seems to be over, music is off

It seems that a major illegal party in France that started on New Year’s Eve has come to an end. The music is turned off around 7am and visitors now appear to leave slowly. The party in the hamlet of Lieuron in Brittany was contrary to the corona measures.

A few thousand people had come to the rave party in a storage shed. The police had tried in vain to end the party. Partygoers, some from the UK and Spain, pelted the police with bottles and stones and a police car was set on fire.

‘Paint to corona rules’

One of the partygoers had told the French news agency AFP that “very few” kept enough distance from each other. A number of visitors occasionally got some sleep in the car and then continued partying. Another party guest said the rave was very well organized with enough food and drink for everyone.

In France, around the turn of the year, there was a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. In the country, more than 100,000 police officers were on the move to enforce curfews and end parties.

Police had blocked access roads to the party venue in Brittany to stop new partygoers. More than 200 people who tried to leave the party were fined € 135.

The people who are leaving now have to take a breathalyzer and identify themselves. Interior Minister Darmanin said police managed to end the rave party without violence.
