A crowd of people gathered today 2/3 at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos to say the last goodbye to the great actor Ilias Logothetis, who died on Wednesday 28/2 at the age of 85. He was buried in the Papagou Cemetery.

The path of Ilias Logothetis

Actor, opera lover – a troubadour originally from Lefkada and an inherited love for singing -, loved by the general public as for years he had a permanent presence in every Greek home with the films and television series in which he appeared, Ilias Logothetis, was a rare case of a comic actor with a multifaceted personality and lively dramatic tone.

His characteristic blue eyes, his strong voice will continue to accompany the next generations through his multiple appearances in the cinema and on television where he gained great recognition with “Monday theater(ERT1).

Born in Lefkada in 1939, Ilias Logothetis studied Political Science at Panteio to begin his great adventure in theater on the stage of his Art Theater Karolo Koun. It first appeared in the cinema in 1970, in Babylonia by Dimitris Dizikirikis, adaptation of his play of the same title Dimitris Byzantiua very interesting attempt to renew Greek comedy centered on Nafplio in 1827. In the role of the dictatorial policeman, Nionou Fante from the Ionian Islands, which he also performed in Karolos Koon’s performance, Logothetis left an era, created his own cinematic model that was even honored with the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, in a film that brings to the fore the linguistic idioms and peculiarities of a handful of characters from every corner of Greece gathered in a tavern.

Elias Logothetis was in the cinema in front of the camera of Theodoros Angelopoulos (Landscape in Fog, The Meteor Step of Pelargos), Nikos Perakis (Arpa Colla, The Bubble), by Dino Katsouridis (Thanasis in the Country of Sfaliara) by Nikos Zervos (Women Poison), by Tasos Boulmetis (Craftsmanship of Dreams), of Kostas Vrettakos (The Swallow’s Children) and many other Greek directors. We distinguish him in “Only Trip of My Life» by Lakis Papastathi, a short but rich in images and emotions look back on the life of the writer G. Vizyinos, based on the author’s short story of the same title, where he highlights the special psyche of the writer, in a transitional historical period for Hellenism, at the end of the 19u century, as he is locked up in a psychiatric hospital in Athens. His last memorable appearances in the cinema were the films The Tree and the Swing (2013) by Maria Duza and the Wild Duck (2013) by Yiannis Sakaridis where he appeared with his actor son Alexandros Logothetis.

In his theatrical career, Elias Logothetis collaborated with the troupes of Yannis Fertis and Xenias Kalogeropoulos, Kakia Analytis and Kostas Rigopoulos, Nikos Xanthopoulos, Thanasis Veggou, Angelos Antonopoulos and Miranda Kounelakis as well as with the Amphitheater of Spyros Evagelatos. He had also taken part in musical performances, such as the tribute to Michalis Soyul.
