Ikea is experimenting with tiny house

Ikea has launched its Tiny Home Project. In this way, the Swedish furniture giant wants to show how we can live more sustainably in a smaller space in the future.

Seventeen square meters, barely that big is the tiny house that Ikea has launched. Yet you will find everything in it: a bedroom, sitting area, kitchen and bathroom with shower and toilet, and on top of the roof there are also solar panels. Moreover, it is on wheels and you can place it wherever you want. It goes without saying that the space was furnished with furniture from Ikea.

But what is the point of all that? Ikea is thus jumping on the trend of tiny houses and at the same time it wants to demonstrate how we can live more sustainably and on a more limited surface. People are increasingly forced to live smaller because there is less space available in large cities, among other places. “We want to meet the needs of the current generations without endangering the needs of the future generations,” said a press release.

For the time being Ikea is not bringing the house into production, but it sees it as a kind of thought exercise. It did, however, launch one in collaboration with Vox Creative virtual tour in the tiny house. Ideal for getting some inspiration.
