IFK Gothenburg has presented its new head coach.
40-year-old Dane Jens Berthel Askou takes over the crisis club.
– I am proud, the potential is great and history speaks for itself, he says at the press conference.
Jens Berthel Askou has signed a contract with IFK Gothenburg over three and a half years.
Alexander Tengryd and William Lundin go back to being assistant coaches.
– After a rather long process, we have a new coach in port. We have been looking for a clear leader who can drive the training. A coach who is hungry and who really wants to further his career and is development-oriented and wants to work with young players. He will take our game to the next level, says technical director Ola Larsson.
“Need to get results”
It was before the start of the series in March that Mikael Stahre was fired by IFK Göteborg after the exit from the Swedish Cup where there were losses against Gais and IFK Norrköping.
IFK Göteborg is in 14th place in the Allsvenskan with seven recorded points in eleven rounds.
– It is a club with traditions and ambitions. It’s a tough time right now. We need to get results as soon as possible and build from there. We need to have more speed with the ball and our pressure must be high intensity. I want a team that controls the game and the matches, says Jens Berthel Askou.
“There has been a lack of quality”
He cannot yet say in more detail how he thinks about the future playing system, away against Sirius on Sunday they continue to work on how it looked earlier in the season.
– I have seen that the team has had problems with injuries and suspensions. They have gone to war and been unlucky by small margins. There has also been a lack of quality that we have to bring in, says Jens Berthel Askou.
