“If we do not take strong action, it is hard to imagine that the situation will improve on its own”, estimates Saturday March 27 on franceinfo Professor Jean-François Timsit, head of the medical and infectious resuscitation service at Bichat Hospital, while the epidemic is still gaining ground in Ile-de-France and in the country.
“The situation is worrying since we are really at the limit of the system”, lamented the professor, “Every day, it gets worse. When we see the increase in cases and the current increase in incidence, we know that in two weeks, it will be even worse. We will have 500 deaths per day and we will be in a situation dramatic.”
Jean-François Timsit called for additional measures to be taken: “I would like it not to drag on too long. There should indeed be something stricter, especially on schools.”
Finally, on the vaccination campaign and “to save a little time”, the professor called to “use this second dose that is blocked to do it after three weeks and use it now to inject the first dose to as many people as possible, to try to save as many lives as possible.”
