The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, warned that, if the authorities and society do not strictly follow the preventive measures indicated in the “new normal” traffic light, there is a risk that the Covid-19 have a flare-up in the country, equal to the start of the pandemic.
In a video published on his social networks, López-Gatell reported that the entry of the traffic light will begin this Monday, June 1, and each week it will be updated and report the magnitude of the risk by state, in the afternoon conference on the coronavirus.

“Let’s not lose sight of the fact that this is changing, at times, a municipality can be in yellow and the following week, or go green, or go orange, even red. This will depend on strictly following the interventions.
“If the rules are not followed, what will happen is that each municipality and each state will have a greater number of infections, the pandemic will remerge and then they will have more restrictive measures, which return us to previous stages of epidemic control”, said.

The official appealed to the citizens to respect the healthy distance measures and to leave only when necessary, as well as to keep an eye on the traffic light in the state where he lives. For this, he said, a map of the country will be placed with recurring updates on each entity and the corresponding traffic light color.
He assured that the new stage of the management of the epidemic of Covid-19 in Mexico implies that people “change their way of behaving individually, specifically in the management of personal hygiene, and with respect to others”, in the public space.

He confirmed that local governments will only intervene in the public space, to seek to mitigate the effects of the virus in the “new normal” stage, but also according to the attention and response capacity of their health systems.
