IDI Asks the Public to Beware of the Spread of the New Variant of the Corona N439K Virus

JAKARTA KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association ( IDI) Daeng M Faqih asked the public to be aware of the mutation of the corona virus found in England, namely N439K.

“Recently, the government announced the B.1.1.7 variant and in the world there is another new variant that has been developing in Britain, namely the N439K,” said Daeng in a written statement, Wednesday (10/3/2021).

Daeng said, the N439K corona virus variant had been found in 30 countries and was “smarter” than the previous corona virus.

“This N439K variant, which has been in more than 30 countries, is actually more smart from the previous variant because the binding to the ACE2 receptor in human cells is stronger, and it is not recognized by polyclonal antibody which is formed from the immunity of people who have been infected, “he said.

In addition, Daeng said, wearing masks according to standards can protect oneself from transmission of the corona virus.

He said, using masks properly and correctly 90 percent can prevent transmission of the corona virus.

“Although there is a risk of up to 10 percent of discharge droplet and microdroplet with the use of masks for a long time, “he said.

Furthermore, Daeng added, wearing masks in public places is mandatory, considering that the average person exposed to Covid-19 has no symptoms.

“And it becomes difficult to control because it is impossible for everyone to be tested every day,” he concluded.

As is known, the government announced that the mutation case for the corona virus B.1.1.7 had entered Indonesia, Tuesday (2/3/2021).

The Ministry of Health reported that the mutation of the corona virus B.1.1.7 was only found in five provinces. The first two cases, as is known, were found in Karawang, West Java.

Then, North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and South Sumatra.
