Identifying “Fake Demonstrations” Across Europe: Insights from DR and VRT NWS

In collaboration with various other European media, DR managed to identify 10 similar “fake demonstrations”. In addition to the protests in Brussels, the trio also appeared during the pension protests in Paris and at protests in the Spanish capital Madrid and in the Dutch city of The Hague.

The disinformation cell of VRT NWS also succeeded in determining the exact position of the “fake demonstrators” in Brussels. A video circulating on YouTube was clearly recorded in front of the Finance Tower in Brussels.

“People turn up in four demonstrations in Brussels,” journalist Rien Emmery of the disinformation cell of VRT NWS tells Radio 1. “One of them was directed against the workload in the healthcare sector, the others were other trade union demonstrations. Each time, three people came with the same handwritten signs show up. It’s really people being hired.”
