id Software to share DOOM Eternal release date for switch “very soon”

A successful third party title that hasn’t landed on the switch yet is DOOM Eternal. This latest entry in the infernal demon slaughter series has been available on other consoles since March 20, so what’s going on with the Nintendo port?

Id Software executive producer Marty Statton previously mentioned how amazed he was at this particular version and said it wouldn’t be a huge delay, but it’s true that we’re starting to be a little worried. Fortunately, he provided Nintendo fans with a brief update during a recent panel at Gamelab Live 2020. The plan is to lock a “very soon” release date for the Switch.

Here’s the transcript, courtesy of Nintendo Everything:

We will talk about the release date very soon. We haven’t announced it yet – I can’t do it now. He has really made great progress. Panic Button, the studio we work with, as I said before, they are the masters of the platform. … We released Doom Eternal on all the same platforms as we released Doom 2016, and I thought it was a real feather in the hat of our technical team, and I think it will be the same for Panic Button and our engine team too because it starts with their core that is passed on and the optimization that is done. I think it will be as good as Doom 2016, and I’m very excited that people are getting it.

He added that Doom Eternal would be “another step” with the Switch and reassured anyone interested in this version that the game would be the full experience:

We really aren’t watered down at all. People can expect a full experience.
