The goal was changed in the 27th minute, when after a quick counterattack he shot through Niederberger in the German goal of Shin. However, the Germans increased their activity and Kühnhackl equalized with a successful shot in the middle of the match.
Then Bojarkin chose a weaker moment, underestimating Placht’s ending to a closer pole, but he didn’t have to be sad for a long time. The referees canceled the goal after the so-called coaching challenge, because the goalie of the attacker with Polish roots was preceded by an offside. In the subsequent overpowering game, the Germans moved Eisenschmid into the lead.
However, the Kazakhs, who played the fourth match in five days, equalized right at the beginning of the third period. After 31 seconds, Moritz Müller fouled Akolzin in a goal chance, and Captain Starchenko safely converted the ordered penalty shot. Petuchov could have completed the turn in the 55th minute, but Niederberger was still ready. A minute later, Akolzin got into the break and secured his team a victory with the premier goal at the World Cup.
“We took a chance, which was important. It’s the key to our success. We try to play well, not let our opponents stand a chance in front of the goal, and when we get to an opportunity ourselves, use it,” said defender Viktor Svedberg, who returned to the Kazakh squad after a disciplinary sentence.
The Germans could not even equalize in almost two minutes of power play. “We did not give the best performance. In the second period it was quite good, we had a move, but we did not succeed as we wished. Kazakhstan played selflessly and we did not get up to speed,” admitted Finnish coach Germany Toni Söderholm.
