IAEA “Restore the external power line damaged by the bombardment of the Japorija nuclear power plant”

An external power supply that was damaged in the bombardment of the Zaporiza nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine has been restored within six days.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement in the name of Secretary-General Rafael Grossi on the 10th (local time), “We received a report that the power line that can draw external power (within the nuclear power plant facility) was damaged by the bombardment on the 5th, but has been restored. . This is a positive development.”

The Zaporiza Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant with six reactors, was bombarded for two days in a row on the 5th and 6th. As a result, the power line connecting the external power grid and the nuclear power plant was destroyed, and a part of the spent fuel storage facility building was also destroyed.

Russia and Ukraine have been battling each other over who fired the bombardment. The Zaporiza nuclear power plant is currently occupied by Russia.

The IAEA is of the position that experts should be sent to the site to check the safety status of nuclear power plants.

Secretary-General Grosi will attend the UN Security Council to be held in New York on the 11th to brief on the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
