Philippe Jan, the president of the Laval club which plays in National, confided in Ouest-France at the end of the club season and the championship. While the FFF is likely to announce the end of the amateur championship season on Thursday, he says he has long been under the impression that the season could resume. For him, there was a desire of the clubs to take back but above all a desire to turn the page but that nobody knows when it will be possible. He says the clubs have worked on many recovery hypotheses but that with the number of days remaining (9 in total) and the preparation before the recovery, even if everything starts again on May 11, the season will only end August and that it is therefore impossible to resume the championship. He nevertheless explains that the amateur championships will listen to the FFF’s proposals. He also highlights logistical issues in the event of a resumption by explaining that it will be complicated to shelter the players when the hotels will not reopen on May 11.

“We have worked a lot”

Philippe Jan went on to explain that the clubs did not sit idly by and that everyone worked a lot in order to be a source of proposals with the FFF, whether in sporting or financial terms. He says that for him, we could focus on two National climbs in Ligue 2, two National descents in N2 and four N2 climbs in the National to reach 20 clubs in 2020-2021. He then tackled the question of finance for amateur clubs, explaining that there will be a double effect with the loss of revenue and the way in which economic partners will approach next season. It is complicated for him today to predict the shortfall but he thinks that there will be assistance from the Federation for National clubs, which will undoubtedly be less than 1 million euros for each club. He then comes to talk about his club, explaining that sportingly, the end of the season will not have much impact because the club was 10th but at the institutional level, there is contact with customers and partners and that the club has not stayed dormant in order to prepare for the next season in terms of marketing and organization. He explains that the club will be penalized financially but that it has reserves to compensate for this difficult period. He concluded by explaining that the club awaits the decisions of the FFF but that it will continue to work around the young people to initiate meetings next week.
