In December 2022, I changed my Apple Watch Series 7 to the new Apple Watch Ultra. The first days there were fears that we would not make friends with the new Apple gadget: this watch was too different from the usual Apple Watch in size and weight.
A week later, I wrote about my impressions, and they were all positive. All fears were in vain – the “ultra” turned out to be an order of magnitude more convenient and practical than any other ordinary Apple Watch, both in terms of daily wear on the wrist and in terms of autonomy. Three days not to charge the Apple Watch, but I could not even dream of such a thing before!
However, now I want to tell you about the strength Apple Watch Ultra. Titanium case and sapphire crystal are not just marketing beauty phrasesbut really indestructible materials, thanks to which there is still not a scratch on my “ultra”, despite periodic incidents, such as touching walls or stair handrails with the screen.
And yesterday, the watch had a real drop test, though spontaneous. And the watch handled the fall perfectly. I’m telling.
The day the Apple Watch Ultra could have shattered
I have long been accustomed to wearing a watch on my right hand. Try it, it’s very convenient 🙂
On a typical weekday, I left the house as usual with the Apple Watch Ultra on my wrist. Now I use them with the original orange Apple strap, which goes well with the activation button for the siren and flashlight of the same color.
As a reminder, any 44mm Apple Watch bands can be used with the Apple Watch Ultra. So I have an impressive collection that I’ve built up over the years I’ve owned previous watches.

Arriving at the office, I took off my watch and put it next to it. I always do this when I wear a silicone strap, because it has metal fittings that can scratch the body of the MacBook when typing.
And then at some point I had to go down the stairs and meet the courier. Getting up from my chair and automatically picking up my Apple Watch Ultra, I left the office, fastening my wrist strap as I went.
And the unexpected happened: due to the weight of the case, the watch slipped from my wrist and crashed onto a granite step. And then merrily galloped another four or five steps.
Frankly, I went cold at the thought that the screen probably did not survive such a test. It’s no joke, the Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3 grams plus how much the strap weighs. The watch fell from the height of my head, which is about 1.7 meters. Yes, they not only fell, but also counted several steps of the granite staircase.
All these thoughts flew through my head in those few seconds during which I went downstairs and picked up the long-suffering clock from the floor. Picked up, began to consider. And you know what?
The screen was completely intact. Moreover, there was not a single scratch, chip or abrasion on the case. But I saw with my own eyes that the clock fell on the granite exactly sideways.

Looking back at my previous Apple Watch Series 7, I’m sure they certainly wouldn’t have survived such an ordeal. I remember how the screen was covered with small scratches already a month and a half after the purchase, and six months later, such an impressive scuff appeared on the aluminum case from somewhere.
Given that I try to be careful with my gadgets, this was it’s a shame.
After this fall, I fell in love with my “ultra” even more. This is truly the most reliable model in the entire line of Apple smartwatches, which also looks great on the wrist.
So if you are afraid to take Apple Watch Ultra for some of the reasons written above, I assure you: this is not true. You will get used to them very quickly and will wear them with pleasure.
And if you drop it, nothing will happen to them. Checked on personal experience.
