It was supposed to be a night when fans in Anfield celebrated Liverpool’s approach to the Premier League title, but after a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace, coach Juergen Klopp said that his players “made their own atmosphere.”
In the first Liverpool match at home since the activity was interrupted by the Corona Virus pandemic, the team scored 4 goals, beating its guest and two points away from winning its first league title in 30 years.
“Imagine if the stadium was full of fans and everyone was watching what happened,” Klopp said, whose team could win the title if Manchester City failed to win, on Thursday, at its Chelsea host.
He added: “I don’t think the performance would have been better, because my players played as if the fans filled the stands. The atmosphere on the field was amazing. ”
Klopp continued: “I was very impressed with the performance. We were 4-0 ahead in the 87th minute and 4 players pressed one of the Crystal Palace players as if they were the only ball in the world. I liked it so much. Great result and amazing performance. ”
“The style of our play and the enthusiasm we demonstrated was exceptional, and there are some moments I did not believe.”
He continued: “On the field, I don’t think we could have done better with fans, I don’t think we could do better. I am very happy to have shown that we are doing it for the fans even if you are not here. I feel very comfortable now. ”
Klopp will watch the City and Chelsea match, which could end his club’s long wait for the League title, but City’s victory will pave the way for a flaming confrontation between Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s team on July 2.
Klopp concluded: “I have to watch the game, because we will play against them after a week. This is part of being professional and doing my job. ”
