Kik Pierie had a difficult time at Ajax last season. That confirms the nineteen-year-old defender to TC / Tubantia. On Thursday it was announced that FC Twente will rent him from the Amsterdam club until the summer of 2021.
Last year Ajax paid five million euros for Pierie, who at that time already had 62 games in the Eredivisie. Not one was added in Amsterdam, because trainer Erik ten Hag preferred other defenders. “The level is high. They have multiple players for each position”, Pierie responds.
The former player of sc Heerenveen played his matches at Jong Ajax in the Kitchen Champion Division. He visibly had difficulty with that. “I must also honestly say that I sometimes found it difficult to suddenly play a level lower.”
At Twente, Pierie gets the opportunity to make Eredivisie kilometers. “Whether I intend to return to Ajax after that? I still have a contract until 2024, but I am not busy with that now. I am much too happy with FC Twente.”
