Hyundai Showcases Its Vision of Unlimited Mobility Through Robotics at CES in Las Vegas

Hyundai has shared at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, which is held in Las Vegas (United States) from January 5 to 8, its vision of the future on robotics and the metaverse under the central theme ‘Expanding Human Reach’ ( Expand Human Reach), according to a statement.

Specifically, he has exposed how his robotics division will drive the paradigm shift towards the mobility of the future, “beyond the traditional means of transport and fulfilling the aspiration of humanity to achieve unlimited freedom of movement”.

The presentation was opened by the executive president of Hyundai Motor Group, Euisun Chung, followed by the vice president and director of the Robotics Laboratory of Hyundai Motor Group, Dong Jin Hyun; President and Director of the Transportation as a Service (TaaS) Division of Hyundai Motor Group, Chang Song; and Boston Dynamics founder and president Marc Raibert. They were joined by Ulrich Homann, corporate vice president and architect of Cloud and Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft.

With the acquisition of Boston Dynamics, Hyundai has sharpened its focus on advancing robotics to improve people’s lives by developing a number of mobility solutions. The company considers robotics and mobility to be complementary, as one accelerates the development of the other and vice versa.

The South Korean manufacturer has unveiled its new PnD (Plug & Drive) and Drive & Lift (DnL) robotic module platforms, under the new Mobility of Things (MoT) concept, which aims to provide mobility to any element, from traditionally inanimate objects to even community spaces.

Likewise, it has also exhibited the small mobility platform MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid), which makes the most of the DnL module, an eccentric wheel mechanism that combines traction, steering and braking systems in a single structure.

Hyundai Motor and Boston Dynamics envision a future in which people and robots will work together, improving safety, productivity and quality of life.

For example, the portable robots from Hyundai Vest Exoskeleton (VEX) and Chairless Exoskeleton (CEX), as well as the quadruped Spot from Boston Dynamics, are supporting industrial work and offering “very promising” solutions for other applications, including search missions. and rescue.

Visitors to CES 2022 will be able to discover the Spot quadruped, the PnD personal mobility module, the L7 micro-mobility model and the MobED mobility platform with eccentric wheels. The four robots are optimized for each of the modules and the screens explain the special advantages of each of them.

The booth also features the Metaverse Zone, where visitors can experiment within the virtual world to get a glimpse of the future robotic society. LEDs provide an immersive experience in which visitors can create their own avatars and communicate with them in a virtual space.
