As the production volume of domestic factories such as Hyundai Motor Company’s Asan Plant (Sonata) and Ulsan Plant 3 (Avante) declined relatively, on-site members concerned about job cuts demanded to maintain their work, and decided to bring US supplies to Korea.
Instead, it decided to hand over some of Tucson’s domestic production to the US factory. Ulsan Plant 2 and Ulsan Plant 5 have been in charge of domestic production in Tucson, but at the end of last year, Ulsan Plant 2 took over the production of the new GV70.
An official from the union said, “It is the first case to bring in overseas factories and maintain jobs in domestic factories,” and said, “We will continue to secure the volume to stabilize the employment of union members.”
