Hyundai Motor boss heads to New York for auto show

SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) — Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun flew to the United States on Monday to attend the 2022 New York International Auto Show and observe first-hand the automotive group’s business in the North American market, sources said.

This visit by Chung, accompanied by senior Hyundai officials, will be his third visit to the country in about two months, reflecting his particular focus on the US market where Hyundai is faring much better than its overseas rivals despite ongoing supply issues. in automotive chips.

Chung will attend the show scheduled for later this week, where Hyundai Motor Co. will display its Palisade SUV and the partially revised version of the Telluride SUV built by its subsidiary Kia Corp., according to people familiar with the matter.

Chung visited Las Vegas in January to attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and reportedly made an unofficial trip to the United States in February.

Hyundai sold more than 1.48 million vehicles in the United States last year, a record that placed the South Korean automaker fifth in terms of sales in the United States and ahead of Honda for the first time in 35 years.

In the January-March period this year, Hyundai sold 322,593 vehicles in the North American market, thanks to robust sales of its premium Genesis brand, offsetting concerns about automotive chip supply shortages.
