HyperKin shows retro console to play Gameboy games on TV – Gaming – .Geeks

Call us old-fashioned, but the best Tetris game is still the classic Gameboy version from 1989. In fact, most of the games on the first handheld were very good, even forty years later. For everyone who finds that too, HyperKin has a new console: the RetroN.

The RetroN is a small cube-shaped console with which players can play classic Gameboy games on their television. The concept is fairly simple: insert a Gameboy, Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance cartridge, connect the device to your television, and you can play the 12 levels of Super Mario Land on a big screen. The RetroN works with a USB-C connection, and it has a composite connection in addition to an HDMI port. The games can be played with upscaling in 720p. On the photos it seems that a SNES-like controller is included, but according to IGN the company is not yet sure whether they can be used wirelessly or with a wire. On that site, and photos of the mini console can be found on Gizmodo.

It may not be the first time you hear about the HyperKin. The company already demonstrated such a mini-console on April 1, 2017. At the time it was intended as a playful joke like so many tech companies have one on that day, but players seemed more positive about it than expected. HyperKin has now really made the device, although it is not yet definitively out. Later this year it will really be for sale, but when that is exactly and what it will cost is not yet known.
