Hungary threatens veto against EU recovery fund: “Signs that it is not a bluff, possibly second type of Brexit crisis”

Until now it was assumed that Orban mainly played bluff poker. His country can use the European money well. “But there are signs that it is not a bluff and that he really intends to play the game very hard,” said European Member of Parliament Johan Van Overtveldt (N-VA) in “The appointment on Friday”.

“That means that one person will block 750 billion euros, money that is really urgently needed in various areas within Europe. If that really manifests itself, it is potentially a second kind of Brexit crisis”, says Van Overtveldt, who experienced first-row negotiations on the European budget.

According to Van Overtveldt, what is currently before us regarding the budget and the protection of the rule of law is already a compromise and a weakening. “The latest data is that, despite this compromise aspect, Orban does not want to give up anything,” he said.
