‘Hundreds in quarantine in Zaanstad prison’ | Inland

It is not known how the virus entered the prison. No recording stop is set. The Zaanstad Judicial Complex offers space for more than a thousand detainees, or criminals as the institution calls them. Among them also psychiatric patients who are treated in a clinic.

Hundreds of inmates should be quarantined. “They can move freely within the department and thus recreate, air and cook,” said the judiciary.

Celquarantaine

In one department, cluster east, the detainees have to stay in their cells this entire weekend, a so-called ‘cell quarantine’. They are only allowed to air, once a day.

“Quarantine detainees is a drastic measure, but also necessary to prevent further spread of the virus,” said the ministry spokesman.

“Most of the detainees understand the situation. In general, the atmosphere is calm. They see the importance of it for their own safety and health.”

Vaccination

The director of the JCZ thinks that the vaccination rate in the complex is about 30 percent. Because there is a continuous influx and outflow of detainees, the exact vaccination rate is not known.

According to NH Nieuws, it is not the first time that there have been corona cases in prison. Also last year, departments of the JCZ had to go into lockdown.
