Hugo Beteta appointed as Ambassador of Guatemala in Washington – Publinews – 2024-04-05 11:11:23

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) reported this Thursday, April 4, that economist Hugo Beteta will be appointed as the next Ambassador of Guatemala in Washington, DC, United States.

Beteta was the candidate proposed by the Government of Guatemala and has received the approval of the Government of the United States.

The Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency of Guatemala indicated that this appointment is in process and an Agreement is being drafted for him to take office soon.

He was general secretary of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Since August 24, 2009, he has been director of the Subregional Headquarters in Mexico of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

He was Minister of Public Finance and head of the Planning and Programming Secretariat.

He studied Development Economics and Political Economy in the PhD program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

In 2007 he was highlighted by the World Bank as one of the ten Reformers of the Year.

In 2008 she received the Isabel Catholic Order of Spain.

He was a scholarship recipient of the Fulbright Commission and the Aga Kahm, MIT-Voorhees and MacArthur Foundations.
