Huge queues of passengers have formed at Britain’s Heathrow Airport following a problem with automatic e-passport machines. Some passengers even had to stay on the planes.
It is not specified exactly what the technical problem is, but it has appeared at other airports, such as Edinburgh and Manchester.
The self-service passport control portals have been blocked, resulting in huge queues. In order not to aggravate the situation at Heathrow, the departure of passengers from some planes was delayed, BNR reported.
Heathrow Airport authorities say they are aware of the problem with electronic portals, which are generally serviced by border police. A Home Office spokesman said the technical problem had affected several airports but had already been rectified. However, long queues at airports have remained due to the large backlog of arriving flights.
Many passengers complained about the terrible conditions in the queues and that even after the message to fix the problem, it took them 3 hours to get from the passport control to the luggage compartment.
