A man living in China had a heart problem detected by his smartwatch, a Huawei Watch 4 Pro. The information is from the news portal GizMochina, which did not disclose further details. What is known is that the man had an irregular heart rhythm, which was detected by the smart watch. Upon seeing the notification, he visited a cardiologist, who diagnosed him with an early form of atrial fibrillation, a heart disorder whose main risk is the emergence of cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs). Thanks to the electronic device, the man was able to start treatment and avoid major complications.

The Huawei Watch GT 4 is a top-of-the-line smartwatch from Huawei. It was launched in October in Brazil with a suggested price of R$ 1.119. Among the highlights of the smart watch, which arrives as an evolution of the Watch GT 3, are the new design, improvements in calorie management and battery life promised for up to two weeks in one of the versions.

This wasn’t the first case where a smartwatch saved lives. With the advancement of technology, situations like this are becoming more common. In July this year, a 59-year-old Norwegian man fell while jogging near his home. The man collided with a wall and suffered a severe lung collapse, meaning he was unable to move to get his cell phone from his pocket and call emergency services. However, the Norwegian was wearing an Apple Watch, which detected the fall and called emergency services immediately. Thus, a health team found him and managed to carry out appropriate treatment.

Another similar case is that of Rebecca McManus. The 24-year-old Scottish woman was pregnant and having trouble breathing when she received an alert on her Apple Watch. Rebecca then went to the doctor, who detected two potentially fatal clots in her lung. Thus, the Scottish woman was able to undergo treatment and continue her pregnancy safely.

A woman named Marie Bourque, aged 74, also had her life saved by her smartwatch, which detected a heart disorder early. In her case, the warning came when her watch woke her in the middle of the night, reporting an irregular heart rhythm. The lady then immediately went to the doctor, preventing the disorder from getting worse.

All of these cases are possible because smartwatches have health-focused features, such as heart monitoring and fall sensor. Thus, the watches can notify emergency services in serious cases. It is worth noting, however, that the accessory cannot be used to replace visits to trained healthcare professionals.
