The Dallas Mavericks have enjoyed the comforts of home for the last two games, but now they have to hit the streets. Dallas and the New Orleans Pelicans will clash in a Southwest Division bout at the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. New Orleans should still go high after a victory while the Mavericks will try to put the ship back in order.
The game between Dallas and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday wasn’t particularly close as Dallas fell 114-96. Dallas was 87:65 behind at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Gun Guard Tim Hardaway jr. wasn’t much of a difference to Dallas; Hardaway Jr. ended his 26 minutes on the court with just six points in 3v10.
Meanwhile, Monday’s battle between the Pelicans and the Los Angeles Clippers, while not a landslide, was a pretty decisive one as New Orleans finished it off with a 123-104 win on the road. center Jonas Valančiūnas continued his habit of dropping insane stat lines, shooting 7-on-8 from downtown, and ending with a 39-point double-double and 15 rebounds. That’s four games in a row in which Valanciunas had at least ten rebounds. Valanciunas’ points were most of the season.
Dallas is the favorite in this case, with an expected 3.5 point lead on victory. Now may not be the best time to beat Dallas against the spread as they have let bettors down for the last two consecutive games.
Dallas is now 10-9 while the Pelicans are sitting at 6-17. Two numbers to keep in mind before the tip: The Mavericks have allowed their opponents to shoot an average of 47.40% off the ground, which is the second highest allowed shooting percentage in the league. New Orleans has seen some problems of its own as they only managed to knock down 42.90% of their shots, which is the fourth lowest field goal percentage in the league. It is possible that one of those Achilles heels could trip the losing team.
