When the temperatures rise in spring and summer and we are out and about in nature more often, people and ticks come into contact more often. Sometimes with an ugly outcome, since the insects can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease and TBE (tick-borne encephalitis). So if you discover a tick on yourself or someone else’s body, you should remove it quickly – and that can also be done with tweezers.

Of course, the easiest way to get rid of a tick in the skin is to use special tools. These include the tick card or pliers as well as the tick snare or an electric tick turner. However, if you don’t have such a special tool at hand, tweezers will do.

Tweezers shape is important
According to the Health Knowledge Foundation, it depends on her form. The best way to grab a tick is with tweezers, the tips of which are angled inwards. Because: If the tweezers have flat tips that run parallel, it can happen that you squeeze the tick when removing it. As a result, possibly more pathogens – such as Lyme disease or TBE, as mentioned at the beginning – are pressed out of the tick and into the blood. The technology does it
To remove the tick, place the tweezers as close to the skin surface as possible. It’s best to grab the tick’s mouthpiece, not its engorged body. Once you’ve caught the bloodsucker, pull it out slowly and straight. It’s better not to shoot, advises the Health Knowledge Foundation. Because then there is a risk that the mouthpart of the tick breaks off and gets stuck in the skin.
