«How to Murder Your Husband»-forfatter

NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Brophy (71) was sentenced to life in prison, but with the possibility of parole after 25 years, after her husband was killed at work in Portland four years ago, reports several American media, including AP.

The case has received a lot of attention because Brophy, who has published kiosk novels, several years earlier published an essay online entitled: “How to Murder Your Husband” (In Norwegian: “How to kill your husband” journ.anm.). However, this text was not accepted as evidence in the murder case.

Killed at work

According to the court, she shot her husband, chef Dan Brophy (63) inside the Oregon Culinary Institute in 2018 to get his life insurance of around 1.5 million dollars paid out, according to The Independent.

The body was found by a colleague in the kitchen of the Oregon Culinary Institute in June 2018 with one gunshot wound to the back and another to the chest.

Brophy was arrested for the murder in September 2018. She has always claimed that she was at home when the murder took place, and that she is innocent.

Her defenders believe that the prosecution lacks clear evidence. They reject the claim that the couple had financial problems. They also brought in witnesses who told of a marriage filled with love.

In court, Brophy also said that her research on so-called “ghost guns” – weapons that can not be traced – were preparations for an upcoming novel.

– Thinking of murder

Brophy has previously published books with titles such as “Wrong Love” and “Wrong Husband”. In 2011, she wrote the essay “How to Murder Your Husband” for the blog See Jane Publish.

– As a romantic suspense writer, I spend a lot of time thinking about murder and consequently the police procedure. After all, if the murder is meant to set me free, I will certainly not spend any time in prison, she wrote in the essay.
