Facebook announced on its blog that it was launching an option to allow users to hide likes.
After a first test in Ireland in the summer of 2019, Instagram announced last month to extend this test to all countries that can use the application, but for a small percentage of users.
After several months, even years of tests, and certainly internal reflections, the social network is taking the plunge.
Likes are often seen as the driving force behind pervasive narcissism and pressure on social media, seeing two of the biggest social platforms offering this option is a positive sign.
On the social network of the parent company of Instagram, you have to dig a little deeper into the menus of Facebook. By going to “Settings and confidentiality”, then “Settings”, you will see a new option appear in the “News feed settings” tab under the name “Reactions”.
As on Instagram, users will then be able to hide Reactions on the publications of other users, but also on their own publications.
