How to Extend the Battery Life of Samsung Phones: Tips and One UI Features

Even though some smartphones these days could replace even weaker laptops with computing power, display quality or interactivity options, and in general they are increasingly powerful machines at the same or lower price, by quite unfortunately, batteries are developing at a slower pace. And not only their capacity and normal endurance per charge, but also their lifespan. We recently covered the issue of charging and general care of batteries in one of our giant articles, but today we will focus specifically on those used in Samsung phones. We will show you how to extend their lifespan.

Instead of manufacturers trying to improve battery cells in as many ways as possible, for now they prefer to choose a faster charging option. Even flagship mobile phones can only last a day, for example, but users can get 120W chargers for a full charge in a few tens of minutes. Such behavior then significantly shortens battery life and motivates customers to buy more phones.

How to “protect the battery” in a Samsung cell phone and extend its life?

In this regard, the Korean Samsung follows the golden middle path, and the sympathetically “large” batteries do not yet burden more than 45W charging, even for flagship phones, although there are still users who would like to do even more for article life. For example, they charge with low currents overnight and make sure that the percentage indicator on the battery does not point too high. A full charge is also responsible for reducing the service life.

Did you know that there is a feature right in One UI that has exactly this type of protection in the job description? His name is “Protect Battery”. After turning on this energy-saving gadget, the battery will only be charged to 85% capacity, avoiding less efficient overcharging and extending its life.

On/off options

  1. In the upper blind
    • Swipe twice (or once with both fingers) from the top edge to expand the menu
    • Look for Protect Battery in the shortcuts
    • If it’s not there, click the (+) button to add it to your shortcuts
    • You can toggle the feature on and off with a simple tap on the shortcut
  2. In phone settings
    • If by chance you don’t have the aforementioned quick switch available, the classic one can be found in Settings
    • Open Settings > Battery & device care
    • Click on the line with the percentage charge status
    • Open More battery settings at the bottom
    • Turn on/off Protect Battery

The function with the mentioned name should be found in most mobile phones (or even tablets) in which it runs Android 12 and superstructure One UI 4.0. Some other brands also have their solutions, but we are not talking about them here. The advantages and disadvantages of this mode are probably obvious. It will mainly be used by users who are, for example, near the outlet most of the day and they have no problem charging almost anytime and for a long time. Even incomplete use of capacity is enough for them, when the reward is a longer service life.
