5. You can then check the status of your application online using your my Social Security account. If you can’t check your status online, you can call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
6. If you do not agree with the answer, you can appeal the decision about whether you have rights. It must be in writing within 60 days of receipt of the decision. There are four levels of appeal:
* Reconsideration.
* A hearing before an administrative law judge.
* A review by the Social Security Appeals Council.
* A review by federal courts.
