It was supposed to be “dead rubber”. Because Sinner’s match with Medvedev began when all the decisions in the ATP Finals were known – after Alexander Zverev’s victory over Hubert Hurkacz The Italian is out and the Russian will play in the semi-finals.
But the meeting did not disappoint and brought a few flavors. First of all, an unusual scenario: who, after Medvedev’s great first set, would say that Sinner will come back to games, although in the end he lost 0: 6, 7: 6 (5), 6: 7 (8).
26 minutes and it’s over! First, Medvedev defeated Sinner quickly, but he returned to the game
Medvedev played in the first set as programmed to win. He lost just three points in his service games. At Sinner, he used three out of seven break points. He finished the game 6-0 in an incredible 26 minutes.

Medvedev yawned on one of the points. And then it all went wrong

At one point he even … yawned right after one of the points, which caused a lot of disbelief in fans on social media. And Medvedev has already spoken many times about situations in which before the matches he happened to stay awake at night or be sleepy during the day.
Sinner led to the tie-break of the second set in which the game was tied, but Mediedev lost his first serve. And his rival wasn’t going to leave it that way. The Italian got the set ball and used it right away, won the tie-break 7-5 and led to a 1-1 draw throughout the match.
Medvedev recovered his losses and won after the second tie-break
This one point could have influenced the entire meeting. The third set was for a while under control of Sinner. And although Medvedev was the first to get the chance to break, it was Italian first he defended himself against the world’s second racket, and then he broke the opponent himself in the fifth game.
However, later this Russian he was still trying to fight. He made his break and led to the result 4: 4. There was a second tie-break. The latter settled in favor of Medvedev, who only used the second match ball. He won 10: 8 in the tie-break, 7: 6 in the game and 2: 1 in the entire game.
To the semi-finals ATP Daniil Medvedev was promoted to the finals. The Russian will play against Casper Ruud’s better match against Andriy Rublev. Alexander Zverev and Novak Djoković made the second semi-final pair. Medvedev is fighting to defend his title from last year when he defeated Dominic Thiem 4: 6, 7: 6 (2), 6: 4 in the final.
