Kees van de Grint: “Without Verstappen, Formula 1 would be a sad spectacle”

Many believe that the dominance of Mercedes ensures that Formula 1 is incredibly boring and predictable. Former tire engineer Kees van de Grint is of the opinion that it is a good thing that Verstappen is driving in Formula 1, because it would be a boring intention without him.

Of Grand Prix of Spain was one that largely went exactly as expected. Lewis Hamilton his W11 was able to easily take his W11 to victory and drove much of the race on his own. Verstappen and Bottas were admittedly well-matched, but there too it was relatively disappointing in terms of tension. The real action was, as has often been the case in recent years, in midfield. And according to many that makes for incredibly boring races. As Christian Horner said recently: “If you already know who is going to win, why would you watch?” According to former tire engineer Kees van de Grint, it is therefore a good thing that Verstappen is driving in Formula 1.

“I don’t want to immediately speak of a world performance, but it was great,” said Kees van de Grint RTL GP Slipstream. “With all due respect, Max was just driving a hopeless Red Bull compared to Mercedes. He is second here, while third would have been good.” At the same time, van de Grint was also disappointed, because according to him the race didn’t look like anything. “There was no battle and number four was on a lap. I could have done better in that regard,” he explains.

Still, according to him, that says nothing about the performance of Verstappen: “But that does not mean that Verstappen deserves a crate of compliments.” Hamilton is good, Max is the tastemaker. “The former tire expert therefore believes that it is good that Verstappen in Formula 1 is driving. “Everyone, not just the Dutch, has the hope that Verstappen will compete. Because without Verstappen it would be a very sad performance, “said van de Grint.
