Despite the corona pandemic and the slowdown in the economy (as a result of the pandemic) – construction continues to be vigorous in Linz. Because half of the around 50,000 people looking for accommodation in Upper Austria want to move into a new apartment in Linz. After all, 9,000 of these people have an urgent need (after divorce, separation, job loss, etc.).
And to meet demand, new apartments are being built in Linz. 2,900 are currently under construction, 3,400 residential units have already been submitted or are in the project phase.
“The accelerated housing construction in the state capital is therefore an anchor in times of crisis and helps us to continue to meet demand,” said Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ), satisfied with the lively construction activity. In addition, the construction boom would also secure important jobs in the construction industry. And it is not insignificant that the prices also remained stable due to the larger housing supply.
“In Austria-wide comparison of cities, Linz is therefore still in the middle when it comes to housing prices. With the Linz model for promoting affordable housing, the conditions for increased building activity are guaranteed in the future, too,” Luger is certain.
