The search began this morning and will last several days, a source confirmed to the French news agency AFP. In total, the investigators would target “several dozen institutes” in Orpea. In June, a house search had already been carried out at the headquarters of the group and at the regional directorates.
Orpea has 350 retirement homes in France, but is also active in 23 other countries, including Belgium. In January, the book ‘Les Fossoyeurs’ (The gravediggers, ed) by journalist Victor Castanet was released. This refers to rationing, old people staying in their excrement or not receiving treatment for days. The abuses would be the result of the listed group’s pursuit of profit maximization.
