House of Representatives wants to receive Afghans in new House building | Inland

Earlier in the day, State Secretary Ankie Broekers-Knol (Justice) praised Van der Plas for her ‘creativity’. In addition to part of the House of Representatives building, which has recently moved to a temporary location, it is also necessary to investigate whether other central government buildings can be made available for the reception of asylum seekers.

The new location of the House of Representatives, on Bezuidenhoutseweg in The Hague, has a number of floors that are not used.

Van der Plas is annoyed that especially Dutch people in rural areas have to deal with reception centers for asylum seekers. She notes that many government buildings are partially or completely empty and that they may be able to relieve the overcrowded asylum reception.

Broekers-Knol reacted positively to Van der Plas’ proposal on Thursday morning. “I appreciate your creativity,” said the secretary of state on Thursday morning during a committee debate on Afghanistan. The minister agreed to look at the possibilities, but at the same time emphasized that permission from the municipality is also necessary.
