Where to donate clothes, diapers and other products for children affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Since last February 6, social networks have been flooded with photos and videos of the miracle children who are going to appearing alive under the rubble. Two of them were siblings who spent 17 hours trapped, during which the older one protected the younger one’s head with her arm.

Among the more than 36,000 deaths, as of February 13, and the 24 million people affected, there are also children who may have been left without a home, without food or, in the worst case, without a family. Humanitarian disasters awaken solidarity around the world and the response has already been seen, but there is still a need.

The Embassy of Turkey in Spain has published a list of the most demanded goods and apart from warm clothing for low temperatures, both for adults and children, durable food and preserves, diapers, powdered milk, compresses and hygiene and cleaning material are also very necessary .

In addition to all the humanitarian organizations that are collecting funds to help those affected by the disaster, such as the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders, there are also some collection points where you can leave donated material to be able to send it.

The Turkish Embassy in Madrid has channeled the entire collection. However, they have announced through their Twitter account that for logistical reasons, they cannot collect more material. The points where donations could be delivered were both at its headquarters, at Calle de Rafael Calvo 18, 2A-B, in Madrid, as well as at the Hard Rock Hotel (Ronda de Atocha, 17) and at the Turkish store Airlines (Madrid-Barajas air cargo center plot 2.4, ship 7). As reported by the embassy, they will update the data on the collection points through their social networks.

Where material is still received is in the Turkish consulate in Barcelona, but only if they are generators, heaters, portable toilets and containers. Between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m., donations are accepted at Avinguda del Bon Pastor, 57, Sant Adriá de Besos, Barcelona.

However, if you are going to collaborate with an economic contribution, you have to watch how it is done. Cyber scammers are taking advantage of the situation to steal donations through Twitter and PayPal, as indicated from Bleeping Computer, the website specialized in cybersecurity. Likewise, the Association of Consumers and Users on the Internet calls for caution and remembers that donations should not be made through intermediaries, but always directly to the recognized organization or government institution that is collecting the funds.
