The average temperature of the month reached +15.8 degrees, surpassing the previous highest average June temperature recorded in 1940 and 1976 by 09 degrees.

In addition to the overall June heat record for the UK, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland recorded their warmest June since records began in 1884.

“An increase of 0.9 degrees may not seem huge, but it’s really significant,” said the service’s chief meteorologist, Paul Davis, stressing that it affects the whole community.

Temperatures above +40 degrees were recorded for the first time in the UK last summer. This record was not broken in June, but there was prolonged heat both during the day and at night.

The scientists also say that such heat would be “virtually impossible without human-induced climate change” and expect that such periods of unusual heat will be recorded more frequently in the future.

The dry and hot weather is not only bothering people, but last month it also had a devastating effect on wildlife and nature. Environmental protection groups have warned about the death of fish due to too warm water and the wilting of flowering plants.
