What should I do for those who test positive for Covid-19 or are contact persons and may be infected? In order to reduce the risks, a plan is being developed that would ensure the possibility to observe self-isolation not at home, endangering family members at risk, but in hotels.

Hotels are one of the industries that have suffered the most due to the prevalence and limitations of Covid-19. For some of them, turnover has fallen by as much as 90%.

A public contract for hotels is currently being developed to accommodate at least some of the patients with Covid-19.

“We want to prepare a kind of ready-made tool, a ready-made program, so that it can be started if necessary. For some of these people, who are contacts or get sick in a milder form that does not require hospitalization, it is difficult to distance themselves at home. Family members are endangered, ”explained the Minister of Economics Jānis Vitenbergs (“ KPV LV ”).

People with mild symptoms and other treatments at home could stay in hotels. This could also be done by those who need to be self-isolated or recognized as contacts. It would be advisable to stay in a hotel if there are people at risk who are at risk and cannot be distanced from them.

Many hotels have already been surveyed about accommodation and there has been a lot of interest. Hotels would be willing to help, pointing out that it would even be mutually beneficial.

“We sell about 15-16 rooms a day, which is a small occupancy rate. What four percent, ”revealed Jānis Priede, Marketing Manager of Radisson.

“We have 13 hotels in the network and only five work. Therefore, the others are, and if necessary, they are ready to receive them, ”said Jelena Stirna, Chairman of the Board of SIA Mogotel.

Currently, hotels are operating at a loss and do not have many opportunities.

Accommodation for the infected could cover at least part of the running costs, say representatives of the hotels addressed.

“If it will be some amount, at least 20-30 rooms a day, it is already something for hotels right now. This would help cover at least the running costs, as hotels are currently operating at a loss, ”explained Stirna.

There would be no particular difficulty in accommodating the sick, as the necessary action plans have already been developed if a Covid-19 positive stays at the hotel.
