Teams of the Turkish gendarmerie guarding the area of the Turkish-Bulgarian border thwarted an attempt by a group of 21 migrants to cross the border into Bulgaria illegally on Saturday night.
Following a signal that migrants were being transported to the Derekoy / Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint, the teams took action in the border area. When checking a van with Turkish registration was revealed a group of 21 migrants with irregular documentsand some without documents at all.
The group was taken to the district gendarmerie for inspection. The inspection revealed that the migrants are Palestinians and Moroccans, all men. They entered Turkey illegally through southeastern Anatolia. In Istanbul agreed with the driver of the van to take them to the Turkish-Bulgarian border near Derekoy for the sum of two thousand euros per person.
After the identities of the detained migrants were removed, they were handed over to the migrant center near the village of Pehlivankoy to be returned.
