Hospitals – Schwerin – Land creates more ventilators for corona sufferers – health

Schwerin (dpa / mv) – Because Ecmo ventilators are becoming scarce in the clinics, the state now wants to buy ten more machines. “Due to the persistently dynamic infection situation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the procurement of additional Ecmo ventilation technology is necessary,” said Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) on Thursday. The university clinics in Greifswald and Rostock should therefore each receive three, the hospitals in Schwerin and Neubrandenburg two each.

Ecmo devices are special ventilation machines that take over the function of the lungs outside the body. The machines filter the CO2 from the blood and enrich it with oxygen again before it flows back into the body. They are the last resort for very severe corona courses. According to the Ministry of Health, a device costs 80,000 euros.
