After last Monday, Puerto Rico again exceeded the hundred hospitalized for COVID-19, he Health Department reported this Wednesday 121 patients incarcerated by the disease, which translates into 19 more hospitalizations compared to yesterday.
Of the total number of hospitalized patients, seven remain in an Intensive Care Unit and three are connected to an artificial respirator. To date, the country’s hospitals have 2,976 beds and 857 artificial respirators available for adults.
However, confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 stood at 1,729 with 27 newly infected and nine others that had not been reported with a sample date of April 30 to June 15
While, probable positive cases also increased to 5,808 with 41 additional infections. In this line, three cases that tested positive for a molecular test were subtracted, so they became confirmed cases and another three that were duplicate cases.
“The adjustments in totals are made as part of an effort by the Department of Health, entities and clinical laboratories to ensure that all samples taken for COVID-19 are registered in the Bio Portal, regardless of the date it was taken”, The agency quotes in a press release.
On the other hand, Salud also reported that the number of deaths from the disease remained at 153 after no new deaths were reported. Given this, the total number of confirmed deaths remains at 59 and the probable deaths are 94. “It is important to remember that any death recorded after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports,” the statement added.
Health defined as probable death that death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 by means of a serological test (not diagnostic) or that his doctor registered death by clinical criteria when evaluating the symptoms. While confirmed deaths involve people who tested positive for a molecular (diagnostic) test.
Similarly, the term confirmed positive case refers to infections whose results were validated by means of a molecular test. Likewise, the probable case refers to that positive result for the disease that was obtained through serological testing.
Confirmed positive cases
The total of 1,729 confirmed positive cases correspond to 862 women and 867 men.
The group of patients between 50 and 59 years continues to dominate with the highest number of infections (335), followed by 40 to 49 years (313) and 30 to 39 years (284).
The metropolitan region is the one with the most confirmed positive cases with 591. It is followed by the Mayagüez region (264) and Bayamón (249).
San Juan continues as the municipality with the most infections in this category with 307 cases, followed by Guaynabo (104), Carolina (104) and Bayamón (103). Meanwhile, the government reported that Culebra has a confirmed case, so Vieques remains the only town without infection. However, Health still does not have the municipality of 48 confirmed cases available.
Probable positive cases
The total of 5,808 probable positive cases is broken down into 3,091 that correspond to women and 2,717 to men.
In this category, the group of patients between 50 and 59 years of age also registered the highest number of likely infected with 1,121, followed by those from 40 to 49 years (986) and from 60 to 69 years (891).
The metropolitan region dominates the statistics with 1,426 likely infected, followed by the Bayamón region (1,101) and the Caguas region (839).
San Juan is the largest municipality with probable cases with 665, followed by Bayamón (322) and Carolina (235). The agency does not have available the town of 149 probable cases.
