The authorities have already started the investigation.

The bad smell coming from a residence alerted the neighbors on 11th Avenue, between 3rd. and 4a. streets, in zone 1 of Mixco, so they decided to call the Volunteer Firefighters.

Inside the house they located the body of a male person, lifeless, in an advanced state of decomposition, so they notified the authorities to begin the respective investigation.

The deceased was identified by a cousin as José Luis Mazariegos Paz, approximately 52 years old. According to neighbors, he was a veterinarian and had six dogs whom he had rescued from the street.

According to the preliminary report, Mazariegos had been dead for approximately 15 days and the dogs had eaten him. Next to him was one of his pets, also lifeless.

The neighbors said that since before Easter they stopped seeing him, so they thought he was on vacation, but this day, they became worried when they smelled the smell and heard the dogs scratching the door to try to get out of the place.

The authorities have already begun the investigation to find out what the cause of death was and if there was criminal involvement.

Paz was known for his dedication to rescuing and caring for dogs that lived on the streets, so the hypothesis that his death was due to violence generates debate.
