Tu’ihalangingie himself said he received reports of severe damage to the two islands from photos taken from a New Zealand military plane monitoring the post-earthquake conditions in Tonga. Another report he received said that the two islands were hit by a 10-meter-high tsunami.
He said, with this alarming situation, it is likely that the number of injured and fatalities will increase.
“People panicked, people ran and suffered injuries. Maybe there will be more deaths,” Tu’ihalangingie said.
