Students of the sixth grade in a school in Essen who are together in a WhatsApp group, were shown a gruesome beheading video in recent days.

It starts as a playful Tik Tok film, like so many circulating, but after a few seconds shocking beheading images follow. How those images got into the WhatsApp group is being investigated. A father of a child who saw the images has informed the police. The school board has been informed and discussed the problem with the students in class on Monday.
The mayor of Essen, Gaston Van Tichelt (CD&V), is also shocked by the incident. “We’ve known for some time that such videos have been circulating on the internet,” he says. “But it amazes me that these images end up with such young children.”
Police and school management advise parents to keep an eye on their children’s mobile phones.
