The Department of Health announced today (7th) that there have been 5,198 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, with imported cases representing 564 and five other patients having died.
In terms of school cases, a total of 627 schools reported today 1,184 confirmed cases, of which 1,147 among students. A total of 2 schools had to suspend classes for one week for individual classes.
To date, 7 nursing homes for the elderly and 2 nursing homes for the disabled have confirmed the cases, involving 12 residents and 2 staff members, for a total of 38 residents indicated as close contacts.
The CHP closely monitored positive test cases involving variant virus strains through genetic analysis.
