The taxi driver recently posted on Xiaohongshu to share how he found a huge amount of money in the car. The incident occurred on the second day of this year (February 11). After completing two transactions that day, the victim was waiting for passengers at the Airport Marriott Hotel. About 45 minutes later, a female passenger finally got on the bus. The victim said that the woman was carrying two boxes of luggage, but the original destination was only the airport passenger terminal, and the fare was only 41 yuan.

The victim then continued working and picked up many passengers before someone noticed that there was a black bag in the back seat of the car. The victim checked the items in the bag, but there was no identification inside. It was difficult to determine who the owner was. For this reason, the victim called the Marriott Hotel to ask if any guests had reported lost luggage, and finally confirmed that the owner was the female passenger at the airport earlier.

Although the owner has been found, since the lost property involved cash, the victim still filed a report with the police station to protect himself. The victim quoted the police’s opinion that since there were no supporting documents in the luggage and the cash was not identifiable, the claimant must accurately state the amount of the cash before it can be returned. Otherwise, if no one claims it after 3 months, the cash will be returned. Belongs to the owner.
After listening to the police’s advice, the victim decided to handle it on his own and counted the cash in the bag in front of the police. The total amount was up to HK$122,100, which was “95% consistent” with the amount stated by the owner.

Some time later, when the victim left the police station, the owner was already in Japan. The victim said that on the afternoon of the incident, he successfully contacted the owner’s mother in Hong Kong and made an appointment to return it at Admiralty MTR Station. If the lost money is not claimed within 3 months, it will be returned to the finder.
According to Section 40 of Chapter 232 of the Police Force Ordinance, for unclaimed property stored in the police station, if it is not related to a criminal charge or belongs to the property of a deceased person, the period of 3 months after the relevant property is taken into the custody or possession of the police If a person satisfies the Registrar that the person’s title to the property has been established, upon payment of all expenses reasonably incurred and a sum of money (if any) which the Registrar may fix as a reward to the person who finds the property, The property shall be delivered to that person for a sum not exceeding one-fifth of the value of the property; if the ownership of the property has not been so determined within the said period of 3 months, the person who recovered the property is not a member of the Police Force (if ) may receive the property back after paying the above expenses.
