Keisuke Honda open up about the situation at the club when he was a player AC Milan. He revealed that there were several players who were not working optimally.
Honda in uniform Rossoneri in 2014-2017. Together with Milan, the Japanese player made 92 appearances in all competitions, contributing 11 goals and 16 assists.
Honda said that the slumping financial condition at that time made it difficult for Milan to recruit star players. He also complained about Milan’s frequent change of coaches.
“The club doesn’t have the money to buy top players, so a lot of ‘normal’ players have the opportunity to wear this shirt,” Honda told The Gazzetta dello Sport as reported Football Italia.
“Milan also don’t have a strategy, because every three months it feels like there is a new coach. It’s impossible to get results that way.”
“Pippo Inzaghi was the coach at that time and it was too early for him to take that role. There are some good players, such as Ignazio Abate and Giacomo Bonaventura.”
“We often talk about having to try harder, but some don’t understand, so Inzaghi as a coach must be responsible,” he said.
Honda then named two names which he judged reluctant. One of them is Mario Balotelli.
“Mario has extraordinary talent, but never does anything to improve himself. I want to change his daily habits, tell him to believe in me, if he wants to be the best, he has to train hard,” said Honda.
“He saw me and the next day he came 40 minutes early for training in the gym. Also the day after. On the third day, he was bored. That’s Mario.”
“He was not the only one. (Alessio) Romagnoli was also not training 100 percent at that time. He should have more faith in himself and have a different philosophy,” he said.
After leaving AC Milan, Keisuke Honda adventure to a number of clubs. Now the 34-year-old midfielder is playing in the Azerbaijan League with Neftci PFFK.
