Honda EM1 e: Battery Charging and Specifications in Indonesia

Honda released its first electric motorbike in Indonesia, the EM1 e:. Apart from using the battery swap method, this motorbike can also be recharged with an off board charger which is sold separately, – Honda Power Pack Charger e:. Talking about home charging, what is the minimum power needed to charge a Honda EM1 e: battery?

“We are not recommending (the minimum amount of electricity needed at home). We are only informing users that (the need for) charging output power is approximately 400 watts,” said Reza Resdie from the Technical Service Division (TSD) of PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) on the sidelines of the launch of the Honda EM1 e:, Cikarang, West Java.

This means that every time you charge the battery, the electrical power used is 400 Watts. PLN electrical power that enters customers’ homes is generally expressed in VA units, with several power options, starting from 900 VA, 1200 VA, 1300 VA, and so on.

For example, take 900 VA or the equivalent of 720 Watts, – assuming a power factor value of 0.8. When charging the Honda EM1 e battery: the remaining 320 Watts of electrical power can be used at home. Please note that when electricity consumption exceeds this amount, electricity may drop or turn off suddenly.

“Consumers can determine for themselves what 400 watts is equivalent to,” explained Reza.

Consumers can charge with the Honda Power Pack Charger e: with a charging time of 2.7 hours (160 minutes) for 25%-75% and 6 hours for 0%-100%.

The battery price is IDR 10 million, which is included in the on-road price of purchasing the motorbike. Meanwhile, the charger is sold separately, starting from IDR 5 million-IDR 6 million.

In terms of specifications, Honda uses a battery measuring 298 mm high, 156.3 mm long and 177.3 mm wide. Its position is under the seat of the Honda EM1 e:.

This motorbike uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 26.1 Ah which can cover a distance of 41 km. Meanwhile the maximum speed is 45 km/hour.
