Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. showed off new gameplay footage from Hogwarts Legacy during a showcase. The developers discussed parts of the combat system, how to create the character and gave an insight into the Hogwarts castle.
The showcase shows that Hogwarts Legacy contains an extensive character creation mode. This mode contains dozens presets of characters which in turn can be modified. This allows you to adjust a character’s face shape, skin color, hairstyle, voice, among other things. Players can also add freckles, scars, and glasses to their character model. The difficulty level of the game can also be chosen via the character creator mode. It consists of four gradations: story, easy, normal and difficult. Story mode contains the lowest difficulty.
The developers also gave insight into the combat system. That system mostly consists of a spell that acts as a basic attack. The basic attack can be done with a short press judge trigger be activated. Self judge trigger is pressed for a long time, the face buttons indicate another spell. There are different types of spells and each spell has a different color code. Basic attacks cannot be used endlessly and at a rapid pace, because according to the filmmakers they always have to “cool down” for a few seconds after use. With this, the developers hope that players will vary in the different types of basic attacks.
Throughout the showcase, the developer gives insight into Hogwarts Castle and its surroundings. For example, the common room of the Hufflepuff department is shown, as are the grand staircases and various courtyards of the castle. There are several fellow students walking around that castle who can offer a side quest in some cases. According to the developer, the landscapes around the castle will also be accessible.
Hogwarts Legacy is in September 2020 announced. Avalanche Software, which has mainly made Disney games in recent years, is the developer of the game. Wizarding World and Portkey Games are also involved in development. The game is this summer postponed for the second time. The game was originally set to be released in 2021. The final release of the RPG is now expected to take place on February 10, 2023 for “PlayStation, Xbox and PC”. The system requirements for the PC version were released last summer announced. The release date for the Nintendo Switch version will be announced later.
