Hockey club ‘Liepāja’ will be managed by youth coach Pujāts

The Latvian “Optibet” hockey league (OHL) team “Liepāja” will be led next season by the former youth age group coach Guntis Pujāts, who will be assisted by Kārlis Liepiņš and Reinis Repšs, according to the club’s social networks.

“The coaching staff has been completed, and we can officially announce that the experienced Guntis Pujāts, who will be assisted by Kārlis Liepiņš and goalkeeper coach Reinis Repšs, has been appointed the head coach of the team for the 2020/2021 season,” the team announced.

Pujat himself expressed satisfaction with the trust he had received. “The new team will be strong, and together we will go to the best result, fight for prizes,” said the specialist.

Last year, Pujāts successfully took over the management of the LSSS / “HK Liepāja” team represented by the Junior Development Hockey League (JAHL) Liepāja. The coach has 15 years of experience, and he is also 2018/2019. head coach of the season JAHL champion team “Venta 2002”.

The team will start the active training process on July 6, while in August the annual “Amber Puck” tournament will take place in Liepaja.

Last season, “Liepāja” won the fourth place in the OHL championship and was only two points behind the winner of the third position “Mogo”.

It has already been reported that OHL 2020/2021. Seven clubs have applied for the annual tournament. From the previous season this year, only “Kurbads” will not go on the field.

For 2019/2020. The winner of the OHL regular season, the LHF board, recognized the hockey club “Olimp”, but no playoffs took place.

The hockey school “Riga”, following the restrictions set by the Riga City Council, did not come to the last game of the season, as a result of which the opponent “Olimp” was awarded a technical victory.

It put Olimp in first place, but Kurbads, who came second after the LHF’s decision, announced his resignation from OHL on the same March 19.
